EnglishAccording to current Vietnamese law, foreigners entering Vietnam will be granted a temporary residence card that determines the permitted duration for staying in Vietnam. However, due to a number of objective and subjective reasons, foreigners staying in Vietnam will have the need to increase the permitted time of temporary residence to facilitate their work and private problems.
When the temporary residence period is about to expire, foreigners need to prepare procedures for extension of temporary residence at the Immigration Department or the Immigration Division of the competent Provincial and Municipal Police.
SUBJECTS TO BE CONSIDERED EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD
• Foreign investors in Vietnam, the valid duration stated in the investment license is at least 01 year;
• Heads of offices of non-governmental organizations, the valid duration stated in the operation license is at least 01 year;
• Foreign workers who already have a Work Permit and the valid duration of the work permit is at least 01 year
CONDITIONS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN EXTENSION
• Foreigners must ensure stable business and labor conditions in Vietnam;
• For foreigners working in Vietnam, the duration of permit must be valid for more than 1 year. For foreign investors in Vietnam, they must have full information of business registration certificate ;
• Foreigners who do not violate any regulations on immigration management in Vietnam, strictly comply with the obligations to declare temporary residence at present residence.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD
• The expired old temporary residence card;
• Written request for extension of temporary residence card (according to form N7A, N7B) of the Immigration Authority;
• Passports of foreigners;
• Documents of the company/guarantor;
• Documents proving that you have come to Vietnam for go on business or work legally: Work permit, employment contract, decision on appointment to hold a position in the company, Investment certificate, Business registration certificate.
