Along with the trend of global integration, the number of foreigners entering Vietnam is increasing day by day for many purposes such as working, tourism, business investment, etc. Therefore, the need to apply for a Temporary Residence Card (TRC) is much appreciated by foreigners living and working in Vietnam because of its practical benefits.
One of the most important documents for foreigners to legally live and work in Vietnam is a work permit and temporary residence card. If it is said that a work permit is a permit to work legally, a temporary residence card is a condition for long-term residence in Vietnam.
WHAT IS VIETNAM TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD?
Temporary residence card is a document issued by an immigration authority or a competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a foreigner who is permitted to reside in Vietnam for a certain period of time and is valid in lieu of a visa. The Temporary Residence Card (TRC) can be considered as a long-term Visa with a term of 1 to 3 years and up to 5 years and is valid to replace Visa.

• Foreigners can stay in Vietnam for a long time while the temporary residence card is valid without having to leave Vietnam;

• Foreigners with temporary residence cards can buy apartments or rent houses in Vietnam legally and more easily.
Subjects to be granted Vietnam Temporary Residence Card:
• For workers applying for a temporary residence card (LD 1, LD 2 symbols): required to provide a Work Permit/Work Permit Exemption must have a minimum term of 1 year (12 months);
• For investors applying for temporary residence card (DT 1, DT 2, DT 3 symbols): required to provide legal documents proving capital contribution, investment in Vietnam enterprises (Certificate of business registration, investment license or other documents as prescribed by law);
• For the case of applying for a temporary residence card to visit relatives (TT symbol) sponsored by an individual who is a relative: that individual must be a Vietnamese citizen and have documents proving their legal relationship (Birth certificate , Marriage certificate, Family relationship certificate, etc.).
Duration of a temporary residence card:
• Temporary residence card with DT1 symbol: valid for up to 10 years;
• Temporary residence card with NG3, LV1, LV2, LS, DT2, DH symbols: valid for up to 5 years;
• Temporary residence card with NN1, NN2, DT3, TT symbols : valid for up to 03 years;
• Temporary residence card with LD1, LD2 and PV1 symbols: valid for up to 02 years.
APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD
1/ In case foreigners are members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses and children (under 18 years old) accompanying with the term, the required documents to prepare:
• An application form for a temporary residence card (Form NA8) certified by a competent person and stamped by a foreign representative office in Vietnam;
• A written request for Vietnam temporary residence card from a foreign representative office in Vietnam (Form NA6);
• Valid passport of foreigners;
• Documents: work permit, certificate of being the head of the representative office, a member of the Board of Directors or other valid documents proving eligibility for temporary residence card.
2/ In case foreigners enter with visas with LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1, LD2, TT symbols
• A written request from the agency, organization or individual that carries out the procedures for invitation and guarantee (Forms NA6 and NA8 are used for agencies and organizations; Forms NA7 and NA8 are used for individuals);
• Application form for temporary residence card with photo;
• Passports of foreigners.
3/ In case of relatives accompanying the foreign worker:
• Valid passport and visa ;
• Certificate of temporary residence certified by the local police;
• Documents proving the relationship with the foreign worker: Marriage certificate; Birth certificate; Other supporting documents, etc.
